The PROFIBUS/PROFINET Association South East Asia has successfully conducted its final Seminar of the year in Surabaya, Indonesia, which attracted a total of 150 participants.

The Seminar was supported by Siemens, Pepperl + Fuchs, ABB, VEGA and Posital Fraba. These companies provided live demonstrations to showcase innovative products and solutions at a Microfair held during the Seminar, when participants had the opportunity for face to face discussions with experts.

The Seminar had three parts; news and market updates with the latest news on PROFIBUS/PROFINET Technology; a PROFIBUS Block with presentations on Installations and Best Practices; and a PROFINET Block with presentations on innovative Industrial Ethernet Solutions as well as the new features available in the Automation Market.

Bernd Lieberth, President of the Regional PROFIBUS/PROFINET Association was presenting the latest news of PI technology. One part of the presentation was news of latest node numbers in the World Market. PROFIBUS increased its installed base by 5Mio nodes compared to last year, which means the total installed base is now over 40 Mio nodes. PROFINET also grew quite fast, from 3 Mio nodes last year to currently 4 Mio nodes. PROFIenergy has been introduced. This is a Profile of PROFINET which will be used for energy management and energy saving over a PROFINET network.

Arasu Thanigai, Secretary of the Regional PROFIBUS/PROFINET Association presented ‘best practice’ and regulations for setting up a PROFIBUS Network. Thanks to his many years of experience Mr Arasu was able to present a lot of ‘best practice’ examples from real installations.

The day ended with a presentation on PROFINET from Mr Bernd Lieberth. PI (PROFIBUS and PROFINET International) developed this standard out of the experience gained from many years of PROFIBUS, to adapt Industrial Ethernet to the special requirements of industry. The result is PROFINET, a standard for open, manufacturer-neutral communication via Industrial Ethernet. PROFINET meets all of the requirements for using Ethernet at all levels and in all applications of automation. PROFINET is flexible, reliable and robust and offers new possibilities such as Redundancy, Shared Device, Intelligent Device, Wireless Technology, Energy Management and more.

The Seminar in Surabaya completed this year’s Series of 8 Seminars in 6 ASEAN countries by the PROFIBUS/PROFINET Association. In total, over 1000 participants attended.

Bernd Lieberth, President of the Regional PROFIBUS/PROFINET Association said: “We achieved a high participation rate thanks to the support of all our members over this year. We are very positive that we will continue with the Seminar Series next year and introduce some new topics to our program.”
